Souvenirs like shawls, mufflers, sweaters caps and winter wears made of Pashmina fabrics are fashionable worldwide. Pashmina fabrics are prepared from the internal fur of the Himalayan lambs and are well-liked for their smoothness and natural colour.

Likewise, sacred scroll paintings called Thankas which portray deitiesí images and myths of Buddhist scriptures and cosmology are also equally popular. Although they are available in Thamel, the best places to by these would be Boudha or Ekantakuna in Lalitpur.

Souvenirs from NepalTea and spices of Nepal are also world famous. They are vital part of Nepalese cuisine. They are wrapped in small bags and are very appropriate for gifts. The best place to buy them would be New Road and Ason market in Kathmandu.

Jewelry and gems made of gold, silver and semi precious stones are available in fine workmanship and priced less expensively than elsewhere. There are several shops exhibiting beautiful stones and jewelry in Thamel, New Road and Durbar marg.

The places to look for wood and other carvings are Bhaktapur Durbar Square Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a conglomeration of artistic ancient temples and monuments built around the 55 window palace of Bhaktapur. Full of charming artistic architectural monuments, this square highlights ancient Nepalese arts. The major attractions of the square are the lion gate built in 1696 AD and the most beautiful and richly molded artwork of its kind in the world, the golden gate. Likewise, the magnificent palace of 55 windows built in 1427 AD is also another must visit place in Bhaktapur Durbar Square. and other heritage areas of Kathmandu valley.
